A Year End Message from James Harvey Photography

1 Jan

Well it’s the end of another year and as is customary for me this time of the year I find myself being quite reflective. What a wonderful year 2012 has been, for me personally as well as professionally. This past year has seen some growing pains, some firsts and all in all the most successful year to date. Here are but a few highlights;

This year marked the first 2 weddings I’ve ever done professionally. Truth be told I was very resistant to shooting weddings for a very long time, both due to the stress and pressure of capturing such an important day, as well as my own preconceived notions about the whole experience. Both the weddings I shot were as vastly different as they were challenging. One very small (an elopement that involved only the bride, groom and the owners of Walkerbrae House, the B&B the wedding was held at as witnesses) that they only required me for a couple of hours, the other a full sized wedding with bridal party, parents, relatives, reception, garter and bouquet toss. The whole nine yards. I dare say that both clients walked away happy with the finished product, and I walked away with a new found appreciation for the wedding photography experience as well as a new found confidence for shooting them. I hope to do more in the coming years and look forward to the unique challenges each will bring.

This past summer also included a very unique shooting experience. An anniversary that had a whole family together for the day that they all wanted documented. Not only that but each individual family wanted family portraits at the location, the family cottage, to be included in the day. This whole shoot came about from a prize I offered at the stag & doe for one of my wedding couples this summer. Once planning began the whole thing snowballed into a very long but very excellent day that included many laughs, many tears and many photographic memories that I was proud to capture and share. The whole thing presented new logistical and organizational challenges that I’d never faced before but I think everyone came out of the day relatively unscathed. A BIG THANK YOU to the Smith family for being so patient and fun.

Aside from the larger achievements I’ve already mentioned this year has been one of the overall busiest I have had, with ;

And also some portfolio expansion with some really awesome models

With all of this said I’d just like to thank each and every one of my friends, family and clients for this past year and I look forward to capturing your precious memories and I look forward to growing together in the coming year.

Happy New Year 2013
